Set up a school from one spreadsheet
Students, stops, buses, drivers and routes go in from one workbook, walked through in the order they have to go in.
In short
The School Bus Tracker sets up a school's transport from one spreadsheet workbook with a sheet for each list: students and their parents, stops, buses, drivers, routes and which child rides which bus. The import walks through them in the order they depend on each other, asks about any column heading it does not recognise, and runs large files in the background.
One workbook, in the right order
Buses come before drivers, stops before students, and routes before mapping children to them. The import knows that order and walks a school through it, so nothing is imported before the thing it refers to exists.
Forgiving with real spreadsheets
- Column headings it does not recognise become a question, not a rejection
- Large files are imported in the background and their progress is shown
- Duplicate people, shared email addresses and missing admission numbers are reported before they cause trouble
- Everything imported can be exported again and re-imported
Passwords handed over once
Accounts created by an import can be given passwords in bulk, which the school sees once to hand to families and drivers. A school can also set a single person's password at any time.
